Introducing Spencer Stevenson – Hair Loss Sufferer to Hair Loss Mentor
Hello! I’m Spencer Stevenson (nickname ‘Spex’) and I’m quite a bit like you. I can’t know what stage you’re up to in your hair loss and treatment journey but what I can tell you is that I’ve been there, done that, bought the T-shirt, and worn it to death. With a global media profile, regular columns and as a co-host of a UK radio show dedicated to hair loss, I’m the original poster boy for male hair loss and the myriad solutions (or otherwise) that exist around the world. If I tell you I’ve made all the mistakes so you don’t have to, you’d better believe it! I’ve been seduced by promises of Holy Grail treatments more times than I can count and I’ve been on the receiving end of some pretty awful ones. But you know what? I’ve also been privileged to work with some of the world’s most skilled hair loss treatment practitioners. I’ve come out the other side with a pretty impressive head of hair and I defy anyone to say they can tell I’ve had hair replacement surgery (not once, not twice but a whopping thirteen times!).
I’m a British guy in my forties. My hairline started receding before I’d even hit my twenties. That’s a pretty confronting reality for a teenager, and I know a lot of you out there are in the very same position. Male hair loss – or male pattern baldness (MPB) – doesn’t discriminate, my friends. According to the American Hair Loss Association, by age 35, around two-thirds of American men will experience hair loss to a noticeable degree and by 50, around 85 percent of men will have hair that is thinning significantly.
Nobody digs their hair loss
All the snapbacks, buzz cuts and shaved heads in the world will try to tell you that guys are A-OK with their balding heads. You might get the odd guy who thinks “whatever, I’ll just shave my head” but what leads to that decision is usually a pretty dark time of constantly checking his appearance, questioning his self-worth and wondering what he’s going to do about his hair loss. Chuck a hat on, that’ll work. But it doesn’t; it just hides the loss until he takes it off again … and hey, you can’t really get away with wearing a baseball cap in bed when you meet someone you’d like to get intimate with.
At some point, every guy whose forehead is getting higher or crown is getting cooler is going to have to explore treatment options. Ok, there will be those who shave it all off and move on and I think that’s a brilliant way to feel. But not all of us have heads shaped for that kind of look!
So, who am I to talk?
Balding brothers, as I’ve said above, I’ve done it all and to be honest, I became so obsessed with my hair loss journey that it’s now become my career. I can – and do – confidently call myself a ‘hair loss expert’, and my expertise comes from my personal experience. To look at me today, you’d think “Well he got lucky, he looks great” but let me tell you, I’ve been to the depths of despair. I’ve spent a truckload of money on treatments and I reckon only about 10 percent have genuinely been worth what I paid. I’ve endured excruciating pain, hidden from the world because of scalp trauma, battled with anxiety and depression, pursued ‘alternative’ treatments that either went bad or delivered zero results, been scammed and ripped off… and lived to tell the tale.
Today, I can look in the mirror and feel happy with my appearance but it’s because I got lucky and found the right path for me. You know when you hear people say, “If I could just spare one person the indignity of what I went through?” That. That’s why I’m now the go-to guy for male hair loss. Regular Joe doesn’t know if the hair transplant surgeon he’s talking to is a backyard charlatan or a bona fide expert. He doesn’t know if the Thai clinic he saw advertising a ‘free holiday’ with every hair transplant procedure is legit or if it’s going to send him home worse off than ever.
Check me – and my hair – out!
I’ve made it my life’s work to keep up to date on the latest and greatest in male hair loss treatments. I can tell you what works, who’s reputable and what’s an utter load of rubbish. I’m a widely published author across newspapers and online publications. I write regular columns for The Telegraph UK, ApeToGentleman, Vitabiotics, and The Huffington Post and as mentioned help co-host The Bald Truth radio show in the UK. The show takes calls from loads of men each week who need to talk about the emotional aspects of their hair loss. I’ve consulted celebrities, including A-listers, who’ve needed support and guidance around their own baldness issues and steered them in the right direction. I’ve crossed the globe to meet doctors and visit their clinics and I’ve had the honor of speaking to – and been treated by – some of the best and brightest in the world.
Spencer Kobren speaks with Spencer (Spex) Stevenson about his visit to Dr. Alan J. Bauman’s state of the art hair transplant facility.
“Dr. Bauman is one of only a small handful of skilled artistic hair transplant surgeons worldwide who I can recommend without hesitation.”

Spencer Visits Dr. Alan Bauman in Boca Raton
Recently I was fortunate to finally meet Dr. Alan Bauman of Bauman Medical and he showed me around his extraordinary Florida clinic. To say this practice is world-leading is an understatement. Dr. Bauman has made it his mission to provide the most up-to-date, cutting edge hair loss treatments available at any given time. His deep expertise is matched only by his welcoming, modern clinic, outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment and designed to care for male and female patients with treatments for hair loss all over the body. I toured the facility, spoke with some of Dr. Bauman’s patients and got to see, up close and personal, the incredible procedures on offer there. I’ve truly not experienced another clinic like it and I can only hope that Bauman Medical’s benchmark inspires other practices around the world to step up and provide a similar offering.
