FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 13, 2002Contact: Robert Weneck — (954) 683-1518
Boca Raton, FL—Before the information is made available to the general public, hair restoration surgeons will gather in Delray Beach, FL to get a first-hand look at Merck’s new 5-year data on the prescription hair loss pill Propecia® (www.propecia.com). On Saturday, July 13th, the first regional meeting of hair transplant specialists from the Southeastern U.S. will draw both local and regional surgeons to the Delray Beach Marriott to hear Dr. Dow Stough (past president and founder of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery—www.ishrs.org) present the data, which is rumored to be dramatically positive. Early reports hint that Propecia (the only oral medication available for male pattern hair loss) continues to maintain effectiveness (reversing the hair loss process), while displaying a decreasing incidence of side effects at the 5-year mark*. Boca Raton-based hair restoration surgeon, Dr. Alan Bauman stated, “This is an exciting opportunity to interact with colleagues and receive valuable, cutting-edge information that can truly help our patients who suffer from hair loss.”
Other topics to be covered at the conference will be the increasing use of the Internet for patient education purposes. Computer-savvy patients, thirsting for accurate information, are researching their physicians from the comfort of their own keyboard and participating in ‘online consultations’ prior to making their decisions. Dr. Bauman noted that within the past 12 months, 40% of his patients have searched online for hair restoration information or visited his website, and up to 15% of patients who had a procedure found him initially via the Internet.
