What is HairSpan?
“Hairspan” is the term first coined by renowned hair loss doctor and top hair transplant surgeon Dr. Alan J. Bauman MD of Bauman Medical in Boca Raton, FL to describe the optimum quality and quantity of hair growth someone can maintain over time. Put simply, Hairspan is the period of time your hair remains youthful and healthy.
First mentioned in his famous presentations and podcast interviews related to Biohacking Baldness, Dr. Bauman mentioned that “Hairspan” is related to the term “Healthspan” often used in the field of longevity and anti-aging to describe the enhanced quality of life one seeks to maintain while also extending one’s lifespan.
After being in the field of hair restoration for over 25 years and treating over 30,000 patients, Dr. Bauman realized that his clientele with hair thinning and those at risk for hair thinning wanted to have the best quality of hair possible, the most amount of hair possible, for the longest time possible.
Expanding, extending or increasing one’s Hairspan, therefore, requires early and profound intervention in order to maintain, enhance and preserve one’s own living and growing hair.
“I’m working hard to extend my lifespan and my healthspan, so extending my hairspan is just a natural follow-on goal. I want to live better, live longer, absolutely… but also I want to do it with the fullest, healthiest head of hair possible! That’s why I’m a patient of Dr. Bauman!” — Joe S. (Bauman Patient)
Hair Density – Hair Density changes with age. Science shows us that the number of follicles actively producing hair fibers on your head at any given time can start decreasing anytime after puberty. Loss of hair density can be accelerated by many factors both intrinsic (internal) and extrinsic (external) to the body.
Hair Quality – Hair Quality, such as hair diameter or thickness, as well as pigment and shine, can also change with age and are also affected by numerous intrinsic and extrinsic factors. That means both internal and external influences can affect the quality and quantity of hair growth.
Damage or degradation of hair follicles can happen quickly or slowly depending on numerous factors, but science shows us that once a follicle is “dead and gone” or simply beyond repair, the only option is hair transplantation.
Hereditary hair loss, aka pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia, is a chronic and progressive condition. That means it continually worsens over time without treatment, so like many other health and longevity strategies, the earlier you start, the better.
Can You E X P A N D Your Hairspan?
Yes. Absolutely! The good news is there are plenty of effective treatments for those who wish to intervene in their hair loss process, and many therapies that have been proven effective to slow, stop and reverse the progression of loss of hair quality and quantity. There are also new breakthroughs, innovations, and discoveries in the field of hair restoration and the management of hair loss.
Expanding your Hairspan begins with the proper diagnosis, scalp health, and hair evaluations and measurements. Without the proper diagnosis and assessment, valuable time is lost, and the optimum Hairspan for you, as an individual, may never be reached. Today, you can fight hereditary hair loss and age-related hair thinning and dramatically increase your Hairspan.
“In the field of Hair Restoration, we say ‘Time is Follicles’ because the delay of proper evaluation and treatment can often hinder patients from reaching their optimum results. This is most often seen when patients delay proper treatment through self-diagnosis and self-treatments and also when they are evaluated by non-core physicians (non-hair specialists) and effective powerful personalized therapies are not initiated sooner. In other words, time is not on your side. Don’t procrastinate, start today!” –Dr Alan Bauman
