Eyebrow Transplant

Full, well-shaped eyebrows help frame the eyes and create balance, symmetry, and definition across the upper face. They also play an important role in facial expression and nonverbal communication. For women, beautifully shaped brows can enhance the eyes and contribute to overall facial harmony, while for men, fuller, well-defined eyebrows can create a stronger, more youthful appearance.

When the eyebrows become thin, uneven, or partially absent, makeup and cosmetic tattooing can improve their appearance, but these options do not restore natural hair growth. Eyebrow transplantation offers a permanent, highly refined solution by relocating healthy hair follicles, typically from an area of the scalp where the hair is finer, into the brows. Using advanced microsurgical techniques, the transplanted follicles can continue to grow naturally, allowing the shape, density, and symmetry of the eyebrows to be carefully restored or enhanced.

At Bauman Medical, Dr. Alan Bauman carefully customizes every eyebrow transplant to the individual. Dr. Bauman is a nationally recognized hair restoration physician with decades of experience in follicular transplantation and advanced hair-loss treatments.

With his extensive experience in advanced hair restoration and FUE hair transplantation, he understands that natural-looking facial hair restoration requires much more than simply adding grafts. He plans the placement, angle, direction, distribution, and density of each transplanted follicle so that new growth blends naturally with your existing facial hair and creates a balanced, natural appearance.

An eyebrow transplant uses a patient’s own hair follicles to rebuild or enhance the brows. It may be considered for people who naturally have sparse eyebrows or who have lost hair because of overplucking, aging, injury, burns, scars, previous surgery, or certain medical conditions.

Before surgery, it is important to determine why eyebrow hair has been lost. If an active condition is continuing to cause thinning, it may need to be treated or stabilized first. Importantly, scar tissue can grow hair and support hair follicle transplants.

Treatment begins with careful planning. Dr. Bauman evaluates the existing brows, facial proportions, donor hair, and the patient’s preferred eyebrow shape. The proposed outline is designed before the transplant so the arch, tail, thickness, and overall symmetry can be planned and achieved with the procedure.

The procedure is generally performed with local anesthesia. Donor follicles may be harvested individually using follicular unit extraction, or FUE. This allows the physician to select appropriate follicles without creating a long linear donor incision.

The recipient sites are then created in the eyebrows. Eyebrow hairs grow at very shallow angles, and their direction changes from the inner brow toward the arch and tail. Each site must therefore be positioned to mimic the natural flow of eyebrow hair.

The harvested follicles are placed individually into these sites. The number of grafts varies depending on whether the goal is to fill small gaps, rebuild the tail, increase density, or reconstruct most of the eyebrow.

Eyebrow transplantation is customized, so cost varies from patient to patient. Factors affecting cost include the number of grafts required, whether one or both eyebrows are treated, the complexity of the design, donor-hair characteristics, and the physician’s experience. Bauman Medical provides individualized pricing after developing a treatment plan. Because eyebrow transplantation is usually cosmetic, insurance generally does not cover it.

Eyebrow transplant recovery typically takes about 7-10 days to completely heal. Small crusts develop around the transplanted hairs during the first several days, and some redness, tenderness, or swelling may occur. Patients receive instructions for gently cleaning the area and protecting the grafts while they become secure. Transplanted hair will begin to grow in the brow at 6-12 weeks* following your procedure.

Most people can resume routine activities fairly quickly, although the brows may remain visibly pink or crusted for about a week. Rubbing, scratching, or picking at the transplanted area should be avoided during early healing.

Because the transplanted follicles usually come from the scalp, the new eyebrow hairs may continue to grow longer than natural brow hairs. Regular trimming may therefore be necessary. Once healing is complete, patients can generally shape the brows, apply eyebrow makeup, and care for them normally.

The goal of an eyebrow transplant is not simply to add more hair, but to create growth that looks natural. Results depend on careful donor selection and precise control of the angle, placement, and direction of each graft.

Dr. Alan Bauman’s extensive experience in hair restoration allows Bauman Medical to combine technical precision with detailed aesthetic planning. For patients with sparse, uneven, overplucked, or partially missing brows, eyebrow transplantation can provide a long-lasting way to restore natural eyebrow hair and improve facial balance. Schedule a consultation with Bauman Medical to learn how eyebrow restoration can help you achieve your aesthetic goals. Eyebrow transplants can be performed for both men and women, as eyebrow thinning commonly occurs with age in both sexes.
