This post comes from a recent Newsletter from Dr. Bauman that you can subscribe to here.
Hi, It’s Dr. Bauman.
Last month, I had the privilege of speaking at the 10th Annual Biohacking Conference in Dallas, Texas.
As you may know, the Biohacking Conference is one of the most exciting and engaging events in the world of biohacking.
It’s hosted by my colleague and Bauman Medical patient, Dave Asprey — the “Father of Biohacking”.
I always enjoy attending and speaking at the Biohacking Conference (this was my sixth year).
And each year, I love sharing some of my favorite takeaways from the event with you.
I’ll share those takeaways in just a moment.
But first, a quick refresher:
What exactly is biohacking?
I define “biohacking” as the philosophy and practice of taking charge of your own biology through a more individualized, holistic, and preventative approach to health than traditional Western medicine.
This dovetails with our approach here at Bauman Medical.
I advocate addressing root causes and early intervention when it comes to hair loss, as well advanced treatment protocols and therapies.
If I were to capture the spirit of biohacking in a single phrase it would be this:
“Biohacking is about taking a PROACTIVE approach to your health and well-being, not a reactive one.”
So with that said, let me share my top 3 takeaways from this year’s Biohacking Conference.
Takeaway #1: Biohacking is going mainstream.
Not too long ago, biohacking seemed “far out” for most people.
But today, more and more people know what biohacking is and want to incorporate it into their health and lifestyle in some fashion.
I witnessed this firsthand at this year’s Biohacking Conference: there were more first-time attendees at this year’s sold out event than ever before.
I predict that as biohacking continues to become more mainstream, cutting-edge treatment protocols like stem cell banking (which we already offer here at Bauman Medical) will be more and more readily available.
Takeaway #2: Some of the most effective biohacks are free.
For example, prioritizing sleep, practicing meditation and gratitude, doing cold plunges, changing your breathing rhythm for relaxation/energy, etc.
You may have heard me say that “Vitamin G” (practicing gratitude) is my favorite biohack.
Practicing gratitude doesn’t cost anything.
Maybe just a little bit of time and reflection, but it makes you feel amazing!
Takeaway #3: The power of Nitric Oxide
If you’re well-read on health topics, then you’re probably familiar with Nitric Oxide (NO).
Nitric Oxide is a signaling molecule critical for healthy circulation, heart health, energy, and more.
In fact, it’s so important to your health that the scientists who first identified NO were awarded the Nobel Prize for their discovery.
I often recommend NO to patients because it synergizes so well with low-level laser light therapy, platelet-rich plasma therapy, hair transplants — any treatment where we want hair follicles to get the oxygen, nutrients, and growth factors they need to grow strong, healthy hair.
Now here’s something about Nitric Oxide that might surprise you:
Research was presented at last year’s Biohacking Conference (and discussed again this year) that the chronic use of antiseptic mouthwash can actually diminish our oral microbiome’s ability to help us maintain an adequate supply of Nitric Oxide (NO).
So if you use antiseptic mouthwash more than once per day, you may want to consider cutting back, finding a microbiome-friendly alternative, or adding a high-quality NO supplement to your daily routine.
You can probably tell that I’m both a proponent and practitioner of biohacking.
I’d like to thank Dave Asprey and all of those who are pioneering new ways to improve health, wellness, and longevity.
It’s an honor to be leading that charge with you.
Most importantly, I want to thank YOU, our readers and Bauman Medical patients, for inviting us on your journey to better, healthier hair.
We’re honored to be walking with you.
