PRP Hair Regrowth Results in Women With Female Hair Loss
When performed with care and precision, Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP for hair regrowth is a non-invasive, non-surgical, virtually painless, in-office “lunchbreak” procedure that successfully enhances hair growth. PRP is a treatment that is derived from your own blood platelets, leveraging the biocellular regenerative capacity of the growth factor proteins found within your own platelets. These growth factors have been shown to regulate and enhance hair growth by stimulating and prolonging the Anagen or Growth Phase of weak or dormant hair follicles.
Does PRP Work for Hair Regrowth?
Time and again, we hear “Does PRP work for hair regrowth?” and the answer is absolutely YES! However, if the number and quality of follicles are severely depleted, “dead and gone” or beyond repair, PRP is not likely to improve coverage in that area. A thorough medical evaluation including hair loss risk factors, in addition to careful measurements and examination of the scalp with HairCheck, HairCam or HairMetrix devices can reveal your true hair loss status, benchmark it, and help predict your likely response to treatment and thus answer the question “Am I a candidate for PRP Hair Regrowth Treatment?”
Note in this set of Dr. Alan Bauman’s PRP before-after photos, the female patient is NOT completely bald or bare in the area being treated in the Before photo. However, she is experiencing severe loss of coverage, widening part-line and on measurements, nearly 50% of the hair mass is gone. This is an average or expected before-after result from Dr. Bauman’s PRP with BioD ECM treatment.
The patient is seen here before and 12-months after PRP with BioD ECM at Bauman Medical by Hair Restoration Physician and hair loss specialist, Dr. Alan Bauman, MD, ABHRS, IAHRS, FISHRS. “Non-pork” BioD is used instead of ACell in this case to further enhance the results from the PRP treatment. Only a single PRP treatment is needed to achieve 10-20 months of improvement before a repeat PRP+ECM treatment is recommended. In the photos you can see a dramatic improvement in coverage due to improved hair growth in the treatment area. The part-line is more narrow and the frontal area of loss has thicker, healthier hair.
Every patient is different, so we encourage you to seek a comprehensive evaluation and measurements BEFORE starting or initiating a PRP treatment regimen–especially if the doctor is recommending a series of treatments without BioD or other ECM.
